Best Time to Visit Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga is open to visitors all year round, but the experience can vary greatly depending on the season. Generally, the dry seasons from June to September and December to February are considered the best times to visit. During these months, the trails are easier to walk, the skies are clearer, and the chances of rain disrupting your trek are minimal. Gorilla trekking and volcano climbing are more comfortable, and visibility from the mountain summits is excellent.
However, the wet seasons from March to May and October to November also have their own charm. The forest becomes lush, green, and alive with color. Waterfalls flow more strongly, and photographers love the misty atmosphere that blankets the volcano slopes. While hiking can be more slippery, the reward is a quieter park with fewer tourists and greater opportunities for solitude.

Park Fees and Permits
Entrance to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is affordable and well-structured to support both conservation and local communities. Non-resident visitors pay US$40 per day, while East African residents pay US$30 upon proof of residency. Each permit is valid for 24 hours from the time of entry. These fees are included in the cost of most guided activities, such as volcano climbing, caving, and forest walks.
The most sought-after permit, of course, is the Gorilla Trekking Permit, which costs US$800 for foreign non-residents, US$700 for foreign residents, and UGX 300,000 for East African citizens. It grants visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend one magical hour in the presence of a mountain gorilla family.
Golden Monkey Tracking costs about US$60 per person, while the Golden Monkey Habituation Experience goes for around US$100. The Batwa Cultural Trail costs US$70 per person, and shorter nature walks range from US$10 to US$15 depending on the duration.
